Training Description. Dialectical Behavior Therapy Foundational Training (Remote Instructor-Led 5-day model) Level: 3- Comprehensive Training in Standard DBT. Since its initial development in the 1980s DBT has been shown to be effective for an array of problems related to emotion dysregulation. Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment for borderline personality disorder. It is a cognitive-behavioral technique that uses mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness to help clients learn new skills to manage painful emotions and decrease conflicts in their relationships. Participants of this course will develop a working understanding of the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) framework and evidence-based best practices for implementing this therapy with end clients. Course Description

The five-day DBT Upgrade Training is designed specifically for an individual or a small group of therapists who have completed preliminary training in DBT (i.e. Foundation or equivalent) and are looking to increase their training to Intensive level status. The course is also well suited to those who are looking to refresh their skills and knowledge to further promote adherence to the model in the workplace. It is not a substitute for Intensive Training but is meant to assist teams that have employed new staff or experienced staff turnover and also to assist individuals who partake in the training in creating a structured route toward advanced DBT Training and accreditation. This course is also suitable for those who may have received their initial training in DBT with another training provider This course will assume that all participants work in an active DBT Programme, participate in a consultation team, and work within a comprehensively trained team. You will be asked to be prepared by:

  • Bringing a target hierarchy and chain and solution analysis from the same case
  • Provide a list of the functions and modes of the DBT Programme you are a member of
  • Come prepared to lead a mindfulness exercise if called upon to do so

KATELYN BAXTER-MUSSER, LCSW, CDBT

Katelyn Baxter-Musser, LCSW, CDBT is a licensed clinical social worker and is certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (CDBT) through Evergreen Certification Institute.
Ms. Baxter-Musser is trained in DBT and incorporates it into her practice in working with adolescents and adults presenting with a variety of concerns. She has facilitated DBT skill groups and has used DBT in individual therapy in private practice and in work for several agencies. Her years of experience using DBT principles in her practice have helped her clients to develop healthier coping skills, better process their past traumas, and increase their ability to identify and cope with destructive emotions.
Ms. Baxter-Musser is also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and is a certified EMDR therapist. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, the National Center for Crisis Management and the Maine Collaborative law Alliance. She sits on the EMDRIA Standards and Training Committee and is the co-regional coordinator for the EMDRIA Southern Maine Regional Network. She works in private practice where her areas of expertise include the treatment of trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief and relationship issues.
